2014 Chevrolet Tahoe & Suburban
Notable car magazines and car enthusiasts are already speculating what the 2014 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban will be like, what improvements will be made in them with and what changes they will go through. We are also interested as they are closely related to the 2014 Chevy Silverado. This is no mere coincidence as the spies of the car industry have already got snapshots of Chevy testing its future Tahoe and Suburban and have also gathered a fairly accurate idea of what to expect from Chevy in the 2014 with respect to both these vehicles.
First of all, GM will upgrade the current truck platform it uses i.e. GMT 900 (the improved version may be called GMT 1000) which will be lighter by as much as 500 pounds. This will probably be because of increased use of high strength steel in the composition of the structure. GM will, however, continue with the body-on-frame setup for its SUVs which are somewhat uncommon these days. Using this setup will assist owners who do frequent heavy lifting. GM is going to stick with an old school solid rear axle which does have certain drawbacks (Ford and other competitors use independent rear suspension these days) but will help improve fuel efficiency and is better for towing and hauling. This setup will mean that Chevy’s SUV’s will still be truck-based, unlike Ford’s Explorer for instance, which surprisingly is based off of the Taurus! These SUV’s will share their frames with the 2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra.
Fuel consumption is one aspect where GM SUVs have always shined and the 2014 editions of the Tahoe and the Suburban will not disappoint. There are reports that suggest that both the SUVs are going to get GM’s direct injection small block aluminum V8 with cylinder deactivation, variable valve timing and an 8 speed automatic transmission that will help improve fuel economy considerably. However, GM is most probably going to introduce the eight speed gearbox later and will initially offer a 6 speed automatic transmission. Engines in the Tahoe and the Suburban are most probably going to have the same displacement (there is going to be a vortec 6.2 liter and a 5.3 liter engine) along with a possible 5.5 liter engine this time around. There is also a chance of GM introducing a diesel engine along with a hybrid model.
There is not much to say about styling changes as the spy pictures indicate little as far as cosmetic changes are concerned. The 2014 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban will debut early in 2013 and will go on sale later in the year along with the 2014 Chevy Silverado.
