2014 Silverado 1500 Truck bed features
The 2014 Silverado comes with a quite a host of new features in its truck bed and tailgate. We can start with ease of entry or accessibility Chevy has added a step in the corners of the bumper and handholds have been integrated into the box rail protectors. The nice thing about this is, unlike Ford’s manstep, these hand and footholds will work with or without the tailgate opened.
Speaking of the tailgate, Chevy calls their new tailgate an EZ lift and lower tailgate. This is accomplished with an internal torsion bar. Also new for 2014 is the LED lighting for the bed which is installed under the rails. Chevy also promises all new tie down hooks. Also a first, 2014 Silverado 1500 Crew cab’s will be available with a 6’6″ bed, in addition to the normal 5’8″ box. You’ll still have to get the regular cab to get the 8′ bed.
The beds are made out of roll-formed steel rather than stamped bed’s that the competitors use. This has the benefit of higher strength and reduced mass.
