2014 Silverado 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 Class Leading Power
GM’s EcoTec3 engines have certainly not failed to impress. They promise to offer both class-leading efficiency and competitive power numbers. In the case of the 6.2L we have class leading power numbers. The EPA mpg numbers are still several months out, but if the 4.3 and 5.3 EcoTec3’s are any indication, the 6.2 will likely do very well in the EPA tests as well. The Silverado outclasses offering from both Ford and Ram. Ford’s 6.2 comes in at 411hp/434tq, Ford’s EcoBoost 3.5 comes in at 365hp/420tq and Ram’s 5.7 produces 395hp/407tq. These are all very respectable numbers, but Chevy’s 6.2 V8 comes in at a whopping 420 horespower and 450 ft/lb’s of torque.
We can count on the fact that the big three never sit still when it comes to being competitive in the light truck market, so GM will have to respond as Ford and Ram update their line-ups. Especially Ford, which is slated to release a new truck for the 2015 model year. GM has a comfortable lead for the time being, and should be competitive with future offerings from its competitors. I, for one, can’t wait to test out one of the 6.2 liter equipped Silverado’s or Sierra’s.
