2015 Colorado Out-Accelerates Competition

Monday, April 20th 2015. | Colorado, News

You probably wouldn’t be looking to purchase a pickup truck for its performance on a dragstrip, but in the world of vehicle performance there are some things that are better tested on the asphalt. Having the power to climb a hill with your expensive boat in tow, or being able to accelerate past a swaying tractor-trailer; these can be determined in a controlled environment with a degree of consistency and safety far better than street trials can do.

For these tests, four different manufacturers were compared by pickuptrucks.com – trucks from Chevy, Ford, Nissan and Toyota. In the standing 0-60mph trial, the Chevy Colorado had the fastest time empty, with a run of 8.1 seconds. The Nissan Frontier had the fastest loaded run, but it also carried the least in cargo.

The results were similar for the standing quarter-mile, with the empty Colorado crossing the line in 16.26 seconds, and the loaded Frontier in 17.25. The Colorado was only a half of a second behind here with a heavier load. Tire type did play a factor in the launch conditions, with some tread designs having more traction from a standstill than others. Overall, though, the 2015 Chevy Colorado put in a very good showing for a V-6 based pickup, with its platform-mate the 2015 GMC Canyon not far behind.
