Chevy Will Not Face Competition From VW

Thursday, May 23rd 2013. | News, Review

Volkswagen would not normally be considered a competitor to Chevy in the truck market, but that changed with the Amarok Concept. The Volkswagen Amarok is a small pick up truck that will be released around the world including our neighbors to both the north and south (Canada and Mexico). There are no plans to bring it to the US.

The most potential competition would be with Chevy’s soon to be released 2015¬†Colorado¬†and that competition could have been intense, because the Amarok boasts an impressive 3.0 liter V6 diesel with 272 horsepower and 442 ft-lb’s of torque. I, for one, would have welcomed this competition, because I am a fan of diesels and it would have intensified competition in the small(er) diesel truck-market. But as it stands we can start crossing our fingers for a diesel in the new Colorado, as it is already offered in the Global version currently available in other markets around the world. And speaking of competition, it isn’t ruined without VW entering the market, both Ford and Dodge have confirmed small diesel offerings for vans and trucks respectively.
