EcoTec3 V6, 4.3 Liter, official MPG numbers!

Friday, June 21st 2013. | Review, Sierra 1500, Silverado 1500

The EcoTec3 V6 will be the base engine for the all new 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. Official MPG, payload and towing numbers are now available! With all the new tech going into these engine providing both efficiency and available power throughout the RPM range, the numbers should be good! As both these characteristics are very important for a capable pickup truck.

Let’s start with the MPG numbers as that is one of the first things a base-V6-truck-buyer will likely look at, probably right after they find if it is in their price range or not. In 4×2 form the Silverado and Sierra both provide 18 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. This is just as good in the city as Ram’s new 8-speed truck and only 1 mpg lower than the Ram on the highway. Proving just how good the tech in these new engines is, if Chevy/GMC can get this close with a 6 speed transmission, the numbers should be very impressive once GM comes out with a 8+ speed transmission.

In 4×4 form you can still expect respectable numbers of 17 city and 22 highway. The highway numbers is actually the best out of any base-v6 pickup available today. Besting even the Ram with its 8 speed transmission. Payload and Towing capacity are also class-leading. The 2014 Silverado and Sierra sport 2,108 pounds of payload capacity and a tow rating of 7,200 pounds.
