Engines for 2014 Silverado
Happy labor day Chevy blog readers! Lets take a look at Chevy’s expected engine lineup for 2014. How will they stack up to the competition?

You can expect several changes to come in 2014 Silverado trucks a year from now; truck manufacturers are constantly looking for ways to improve their existing models. This most certainly stands true for Chevrolet. For obvious reasons we cannot yet determine the exact amount and nature of the changes that Chevrolet will make in the 2014 Silverado but we do have a fairly accurate idea of which engines we’ll be working with.
Firstly, a much improved version of the V6 engine in the Silverado is going to be offered but whether the old 3.6 liter V6 will be ditched and replaced with a new and smaller 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 to match the one in the Ford Ecoboost F-150 is not certain at the moment. There is also going to be a new small block V8 offered in the Silverado with direct fuel injection and with a block made out of aluminum. Moreover this new V8 will have cylinder deactivation technology that will allow it to have better mileage.
The bigger HD models will also get revisions of the current gasoline 6.0 and 6.2 liter V8 along with an improved version of the Duramax diesel engine. As far as the hybrid version of the Silverado is concerned, Chevrolet might let go of the V8 and opt for a V6. Along with all these changes, there is also a new eight speed automatic transmission in the pipeline which will be coupled with the smaller trucks that have less torque, unlike the bigger HD models which have higher torque. Both the hybrid and the new transmission can be expected to arrive later than the rest of the changes that have been discussed above.
With Ram having already released their eight speed automatic it will certainly be interesting how this plays out, along with the formidable onslaught of Ford’s much praised Ecoboost 3.5 and 3.7 Liter V6’s. We’re sure many Chevy fans, like us, are waiting what the Silverado has to bring to the table in 2014. As far as we can tell it is going to get very interesting and it looks like Chevy isn’t resting on its laurels when it comes to facing their tough competition.
