GM Flint Truck Plant, 2014 Silverado

Friday, October 5th 2012. | Review

The GM Flint Truck Plant is a rather historic part for GM and is special for a number of reasons. This 317 million square foot assembly factory was established in 1947 and to this date has assembled several million vehicles for GM. The Flint Truck Plant has been upgraded consistently over the years and has thus remained a state of the art assembly line. In 2011 GM announced that it will upgrade the Flint Truck Assembly Plant with a budget worth 328 million dollars. However, even with the large sums of money involved in keeping this facility one that is state of the art, the true magic of the assembly plant lies in its heritage with cars such as the legendary 1953 Corvette was assembled here.

The GM Flint Truck Plant has been busier than ever since the Silverado won the 2011 Motor Trend Truck of the Year Award and GM has had to add a third shift to the assembly line in order to keep up with the demand. Right now the GM Flint Truck Plant employs over 2000 employees and is an economically productive hub for the community to benefit from.

This very assembly plant is where the new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado will be assembled. Needless to say, GM will take full advantage of the plant to assemble what will be the best Silverado to date. At this point in time, however, GM is rather silent about its progress with the 2014 Silverado and is not revealing much. What is certain is that the new Silverado will be more efficient, more powerful, lighter (thanks to the liberal use of light materials such as aluminum) and will have a better interior. GM will also be using its small block V8 in the 2014 Silverado.
