Silverado Based Callaway C-19 Sport Trucks

Friday, October 12th 2012. | Review

Callaway Cars West goes above and beyond most of the average tuning houses found in the market; this company improves a car from the ground up and turns it into a different beast altogether. This is exactly what happened to the Chevrolet’s lineup of trucks, including the Chevy Silverado 1500, when Callaway Cars West put their hands on them and transformed them into the C19 Sport Trucks.

The magicians at Callaway performed their magic on the standard V8 engines that Chevy has to offer with its trucks and somehow managed to get a lot more power out of them without increasing their fuel consumption and keep them in accordance with 50-state emissions compliance. Of course a lot of parts had to be added or changed for this to happen. The most noteworthy addition as far as the engines are concerned is an Eaton Roots-style TVS1900 Supercharger. Other standard additions include a liquid-to-air intercooler, increased flow rate fuel injectors, high flow intake system and so on. The result of all this wizardry is a 450 bhp/450 lb-ft torque in the SC450 model with the supercharged 5.3 liter V8, 490 bhp/481 lb-ft torque in the SC490 model with the supercharged 6.0 liter V8 and finally a mammoth 540 bhp/522 lb-ft torque in the SC540 model with the supercharged 6.2 liter V8. Remember that Callaway has upped the power in all of these engines significantly compared to what these engines had to offer when they start life in a standard Silverado.

As mentioned previously, Callaway transforms its projects from the ground up and it would have been contrary to this statement had Callaway not tinkered with the handling of their SportTruck project. Indeed Callaway has paid a lot of attention to the handling of the C-19 SportTrucks. The suspension has been lowered by 2 inches in the front and just over 4 inches in the back thanks to a level 2 performance package. The ride has been greatly improved using custom dampers and the handling has been made an impressive feature of these trucks as well courtesy of a larger front sway bar and a firmer rear bar. There is also an optional Callaway Le Mans GT brake package available that makes the braking of the trucks absolutely amazing. The braking package costs around 10 grand, however, if you can spare the money you will find that the package is worth it.

Thanks to all these changes and more, the C-19 Callaway SportTrucks are a treat to drive. The handling, the way the engines deliver extreme power once you put your foot on the pedal and the comfortable ride makes these trucks truly world class. Callaway offers the SportTrucks with two wheel drive and four wheel drive, with any Chevrolet equipment group, any cab style and any bed length. Hence Callaway SportTrucks offer performance to people regardless of their preferences concerning the mentioned truck specifications. We can’t wait for them to get their hands on the 2014 Silverado.
